Another amazing novel by Kristin Hannah! I didn't think she could top Night Road, but she certainly did with this one. I could not put the book down and have been raving about it to my coworkers for days. Jolene Zarkades is a wife and mother of two young daughters and.....a Black Hawk Pilot with the National Guard. Her husband, Michael, is a workaholic defense attorney who puts in long hours and is losing touch with his family. With their marriage of 12 years on shaky ground, the unthinkable happens; Jolene is deployed to Iraq.
I am very excited about the recently published novel One Hundred and One Nights by former Brandon resident Benjamin Buchholz. This is his first novel, although he already has published a book of poems and is the author of Private Soldiers, which tells of his deployment in Iraq with the Wisconsin National Guard.
Wisconsin author Sandra Kring’s new book A Life of Bright Ideas has just been published. It is a sequel to The Book of Bright Ideas with many of the same characters. Kring writes about small town life, family, and friendship in a down-to-earth, humorous, conversational tone. It is best to start with Book of BrightIdeas to understand the characters and so that the ending from the first book is not spoiled.
In honor of Valentine's Day, this post is dedicated to my love of romance novels. I admit it. I am an incurable romantic. I love that light-headed, stomach dropping, lump-in-your-throat feeling you get when the man you love says something sweet, does something silly that touches your heart. What do I look for in a good romance novel? I want my heart to flutter, I want to laugh....and cry too....
It's All Greek to Me by Katie MacAlister is both steamy and hilarious at the same time. Eglantine "Harry" Knight sets off for Greece at the last minute to stand in as manager of a friend's touring band. This six-foot-tall, wild-haired, tempestuous woman meets the man of her dreams, but there is one problem - she can't pronounce his name. It's much easier to call him "Yacky" instead of Iakovos, so you really can't blame the poor girl. Though the story line is a bit predictable – girl meets Greek playboy billionaire, sparks fly, etc...
Christmas is right around the corner and stress levels are on the rise. Need a little something to get you back into the holiday spirit? Take your pick from this list of new books by some of your favorite authors.
I like to read books with a Wisconsin connection, and The Queen is a Christian thriller in the Patrick Bowers series that is set in northern Wisconsin. All of the books in the series are named for chess pieces starting with the first book The Pawn. This is a great book to read for those who like suspense and espionage.
A thriller set in Door County. The book starts with a prologue. Ten year old Glory Fischer witnesses a fire that destroys the Bone family house and kills the mother and 2 sons. Daughter Jen survives because she was having a sleep-over with Glory’s older sister Tresa. The story picks up six years later. Mark and Hilary Bradley moved to Door County from the Chicago area. Both are teachers, but Mark’s job was cut after allegations that he had an affair with Tresa. Both say it is not true. Hilary and Mark are vacationing in Florida where Hilary is watching a college dance team competition.
