Summer Reading

Kids invited to Dream Big: Read this summer

The children’s summer reading program at the Fond du Lac Public Library this year – Dream Big: Read – will encourage kids to imagine their wildest adventures through the magic of reading. Kids ages birth to 12 can sign up starting June 4 at the Main Library or FDLPL Express, near Festival Foods.

Teens + dreams + prizes = great summer reading program

If you don’t dream big dreams when you’re a teen, then when? Reading stokes the imagination, propelling into new worlds, new ideas and new possibilities. The Fond du Lac Public Library’s summer reading program for teens (kids going into seventh through 12th grades) will encourage young readers to follow and discover new dreams through reading.

Adults included in summer reading fun, too

The days are longer. The nights are sweeter. What’s better than losing oneself in a great book to slow the summer down? The Fond du Lac Public Library is offering an easy, no hassle summer reading program that lets adults in on the fun.

Summer 2011 was a barn-burner

Every year the library encourages the whole community to participate in summer reading programs. Along with helping children hold onto critical reading skills through their break from school, the programs reinforce the importance of lifelong learning for all ages. The programs – for young kids, teens and adults – all encouraged reading with events and rewards.

Summer reading records due Aug 20

Kids ages birth to 12 who are enrolled in the Fond du Lac Public Library’s summer reading program need to turn in their completed reading records by August 20.

Children are keeping track of every day they read – or are read to – for 20 minutes or more, each time placing a sticker on the summer reading record they received when they signed up. A filled-in record – 41 days of reading – will earn every child a bag of goodies and a free book.

Kids should bring their completed records to the Children’s Desk at the library to receive their rewards.
