Defending Jacob is a thriller, mystery, and book about family dynamics. It’s a suspenseful book that really stayed with me and made me think. If you like books by John Grisham, Scott Turow, Michael Connelly, and Jodi Picoult, then give this book a try. The main character Andy Barber is an assistant DA in a wealthy Boston suburb where he lives with his wife Laurie and 14 year old son Jacob. Andy narrates the story which is interspersed with transcripts from a grand jury and covers the period between April 2007 and April 2008.
Baldacci introduces a new character in this book and I hope he sticks around. Will Robie is a government "hit man" who takes on America's bad guys, but his moral code kicks in when his latest assignment involves killing a mother and child. He can't do it, and from that point on he becomes my hero. Will then finds himself at the receiving end of the hunt. His own people are after him and he must use every skill he's ever learned in order to stay alive.
Thriller is just one of the words I would use to describe Crashers by Dana Haynes. Other words that come to mind; brilliant, spellbinding, breathtaking, and... surprising. The story revolves around an airplane crash and the investigation that follows. Whenever a plane crashes, a "Go Team" is assembled to investigate. Each team member is a leading expert in a specific field. This time, the team has only three days to find out what caused the plane to crash – what normally takes months to determine. Why the rush?
I like to read books with a Wisconsin connection, and The Queen is a Christian thriller in the Patrick Bowers series that is set in northern Wisconsin. All of the books in the series are named for chess pieces starting with the first book The Pawn. This is a great book to read for those who like suspense and espionage.
A thriller set in Door County. The book starts with a prologue. Ten year old Glory Fischer witnesses a fire that destroys the Bone family house and kills the mother and 2 sons. Daughter Jen survives because she was having a sleep-over with Glory’s older sister Tresa. The story picks up six years later. Mark and Hilary Bradley moved to Door County from the Chicago area. Both are teachers, but Mark’s job was cut after allegations that he had an affair with Tresa. Both say it is not true. Hilary and Mark are vacationing in Florida where Hilary is watching a college dance team competition.
While reading The Informationist by Taylor Stevens I was struck by how this thriller has some of the same aspects of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. I think people who enjoyed The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo would also enjoy The Informationist.
