Computers

Computer Catalogs

There are computer catalogs showing the holdings of the 28 libraries in the Winnefox Library System. They are located on both the first and second floors and in the Children's Department. One of the computer catalogs located near the help desk is equipped with special hardware and software for disability access. The computer has a larger screen. Software has been loaded on the PC which will magnify information on the screen.


Internet Access

Adult internet PCs and the Reference DeskInternet access is limited to 60 minutes per day per person. Users sign in with their library card. Travelors and visitors to the area may show identification at the Reference Desk and be granted access via a guest card. For complete rules, please see the Internet Use and Safety Policy. Users may print at a cost of $.10 per black and white page or $.25 per color page.

  • 6 computers in the Children’s Department (ages 12 & under)
    • One PC has been designated as a homework computer. It has internet access plus Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • 22 computers in the Adult Department (ages 13 & older)
    • 1 “Low-vision” computer is equipped with special hardware and software for disability access, including a 21” monitor. (A large type keyboard and special mouse are available at the Reference Desk.) Software has been loaded on the PC which will magnify information on the screen.
    • 1 “Family PC” located in a small study room is available upon request for people accompanied by small children, test takers, or other special cases.
    • 1 “Scanner PC” has an attached scanner. This computer also has additional photo editing software (including Adobe Photoshop). Users may bring photographic paper, but will be charged the same fees for printing.
    • Genealogy software and accompanying compact discs may be used with the “Scanner PC.”

Teen internet PCs in useAll of the computers in the Adult Department have Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Some computers also have Microsoft Access, Publisher, FrontPage, MapPoint and PhotoDraw.

Most library computers accept floppy discs, CDs or USB drives. Floppy discs are available at the Reference Desk for $1.00, CD-RWs for $2.00, and USB drives for $10.00.

Wireless Internet Access

The library provides wireless internet access compatible with 802.11b and 802.11g network cards. See our wireless internet access page for configuration instructions.

Low-Vision Reader

A magnifying device is available for use in the adult reference department. The unit has the capability to magnify printed material and display the information on a television screen.

Microfilm/Microfiche Readers/Printers

The Library has four digital reader/printers, one of them with a scanner than can covert slides to digital images. The Library charges $.10 per copy to print from microfilm/microfiche.

Photocopiers

Two black and white copiers are available for public use. Copies are $.10 each. The copier on the first floor is capable of copying letter (8 1/2X11) & legal (8 1/2X14) size. The copier on the second floor is capable of copying letter (8 1/2X11) & 11X17 size.

Typewriter

A typewriter is available on the second floor for public use. Library users need to supply their own paper or purchase paper at the Information Desk for $.10 per sheet.

Wheelchair and Walker

The Fond du Lac Public Library is accessible to the handicapped. A wheelchair and two walkers are available for public use. Please ask at the circulation desk.
