Life is difficult on the frontier, as young teenage Hanna discovers. Moving to a new town in the Midwest with her widowed father, Hannah must carve out a life for herself while pursuing her dreams of an education and becoming a dressmaker. But will Hanna be successful in the face of prejudice from the townsfolk regarding her half-Asian identity?

This is the premise of this year’s selection for Fond du Lac Reads: “Prairie Lotus” by Linda Sue Park.

Each fall, the Fond du Lac Public Library encourages the community to read one book and hosts programs that foster discussion and understanding of the themes in that title. To participate, community members are encouraged to check out “Prairie Lotus” from the Fond du Lac Public Library before the program formally kicks off in November. The library has extra copies of the book on hand in preparation for this year’s program.

Events associated with this year’s Fond du Lac Reads selection will be announced as this year’s program in November grows closer.

To learn more about these events and others from the Fond du Lac Public Library, watch the library’s website at fdlpl.org and follow the library on Facebook and Twitter (both @FDLPL).
