Consider donating to the Friends of the Fond du Lac Public Library

October 4, 2021

Dear Friends,

Our library has been doing amazing work in the last year and a half to remain accessible to the community and to continue to provide challenging and entertaining programs and opportunities.  Friends has continued to support the library and staff during this period and has now elected to invest in the library’s sustainability projects.  Through the generosity of our members and two substantial bequests, we have been able to donate $85,000 toward the project and hope to increase our total donation to $100,000.

A community survey conducted by the library ranked “Making the library more energy efficient” as important to Fond du Lac community members. Library Director, Jon Mark Bolthouse, has begun to address this by securing a grant to replace all library lighting with LED lighting.  In addition to saving a substantial amount of electricity, this will also provide better lighting.  Jon Mark has also been researching placing solar panels on the library roof. This would require a new roof which had already been under consideration. The approximate cost of the solar panel purchase and installation is $300,000.  A Library Solar Fund has been set up with the Fond du Lac Area Foundation.  Jon Mark has applied for grants and the Friends have donated $85,000 to the fund.  The public fundraising effort will be launched when the remaining funds needed for the project have been determined.  The library will be holding informational sessions and have displays at the library to inform the public.

We request that our membership, in lieu of this year’s dues, donate any amount they wish to The Friends of the Fond du Lac Public Library to be donated toward the Library Solar Fund.  We are grateful for your support!

We are also planning a fundraiser for this fall to raise further funds for this project.  A basket raffle will be held from November 15th through December 11th at the library.  Please, consider donating a basket for this event.  Any such donations may be dropped off at the library.  Thank you!

When the Fond du Lac Public Library held a community celebration at the close of the 2021 Summer Reading progam, the Friends of the Fond du Lac Public Library stepped up to help.

The Friends of the Fond du Lac Public Library funded the purchase hundreds of servings of frozen treats that were given away Aug. 22, 2021.

The smiling faces of kids (and kids at heart) showed their appreciation for the gifts!
