The Fond du Lac Public Library’s Idea Studio makerspace offers programs for adults and teens age 13 and older that help users make creative use of the free equipment on site. Along with the programs below, staff routinely holds badging sessions to qualify users on the Idea Studio equipment, which includes 3-D printers, CNC cutters, a recording studio and more. All program details can be found at fdlpl.org, click Calendar. The DIY programs for October:

  • Laser Monogram Class: 6 p.m. Monday, October 15. Get trained on the laser cutter and use it to etch a monogram or other small design into a wood or bamboo cutting board you bring from home. The item must be no larger than 15 inches by 22 inches. Registration begins at 9:30 a.m. Monday, October 1, at the Calendar.
  • Glass Etching: 6 p.m. Wednesday, October 24. Must be 18 or older. Learn the Silhouette cutter and use it to acid-etch a glass or ceramic item you bring from home. Items must be high-gloss, clean and fingerprint-free. Flat or cylindrical items work best; oven-safe glass (such as Pyrex) will not work. For more information, go to the Calendar. Registration starts at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, October 10.
