Get prepared for the new school year with helpful and fun programs from the Fond du Lac Public Library that will be sure to start every student (and their families) on the right foot.

On Saturday, Sept. 30 from 9 am until noon, join the library for a special outdoor celebration – the Fall Family Festival – at the Denevue Shelter at Lakeside Park. With fun activities for kids as well as opportunities for the adults to meet with representatives of local organizations, this will be a valuable and exciting event for all ages. Be sure to vote for your favorite pumpkin and enter the raffle while visiting as well.

Two other special September events will be aimed at helping specific families in the Fond du Lac area considering big life choices.

First, on Tuesday, Sept. 12 at 6 p.m. in the McLane Room, join Homeschool 101 for families that may be interested in homeschooling their children. This event, provided by the Wisconsin Homeschooling Parents Association, will include an overview of homeschooling, what the organization is all about, and more.

Then, on Saturday, Sept. 16 at 10 a.m., families considering becoming foster parents may drop in to the Foster Family Storytime. Library staff will read and sing about all kinds of families, and then guests can learn more about foster services in Fond du Lac County.

Plenty of other favorite activities for kids are also returning in September. These include:

  • Homeschool Art: On Wednesday, Sept. 6 at 1:30 p.m., visit the McLane Room to learn about artist Louise Nevelson and try a project inspired by her art. Activities will be adaptable for children in preschool through high school.
  • Crafty Kids: Visit the McLane Room on Wednesday, Sept. 13 at 4:30 p.m. to create your own Colorful Paper Owls for fall.
  • STEAM Night: Discover the fun of science, technology, engineering, art and math during this event Monday, Sept. 18 at 4:30 p.m. in the Mid-States Room. This month, explore art, paint, and science, and create types of paint.
  • Paws to READ: On Tuesday, Sept. 26 at 4:30 p.m. in the Mid-States Room, visit with a trained therapy dog and practice your reading skills.

Teens also will have plenty to do in September at the library. Upcoming events include:

  • Anime Afternoon: Love anime? Visit the Mid-States Room on Tuesday, Sept. 5 at 4:30 p.m. to watch a few episodes of anime (and enjoy some snacks). Cosplay is always welcome.
  • Ready, Set, Roleplay!: On Thursday, Sept. 7 at 4:30 p.m., drop into the Teen Space at the library to build a new Dungeons & Dragons character while meeting other roleplaying gamers.
  • Full STEAM Ahead: Try out DIY tote printing on Tuesday, Sept. 19 at 4:30 p.m. in the Mid-States Room.

Teens also shouldn’t miss a chance to sign up for Browser’s Cache: a monthly opportunity to get a surprise, checked-out library book with a snacky, activity, and more. September’s surprise book theme will be Latine Voices. Sign up at fdlpl.org/teens.
