Learn about the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League during History at Home
Learn about the women who played professional baseball, right in Wisconsin, during the 1940s and ‘50s during History at Home at the Fond du Lac Public Library.
John Nondorf of the Wisconsin Historical Society will present “Pinch Hitters: The All-American Girls Professional Baseball League in Wisconsin” on Thursday, March 14 at 6 p.m. in the McLane Room.
The All-American Girls Professional Baseball League had been largely forgotten before the 1992 film “A League of Their Own” brought it back to the limelight. Nondorf will discuss the events that led to the formation of the league in 1943, give a brief history of the league with a focus on Wisconsin teams, and discuss the forces that brought about the end of professional women's baseball after 12 seasons.
He will also discuss the work put in by a determined group of women to put professional women's baseball back in the public eye.
This program is sponsored by the Soroptomist International of Fond du Lac.
