Librarian by day, artist all the time: Fond du Lac Public Library’s Langdon Divers Gallery will showcase Of Art and Guesswork, an exhibit of the whimsical and colorful paintings of Sarah Newton July 5-31.

The public is invited to a reception 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 11; refreshments will be served. No registration required.

Newton, who is the Fond du Lac Public Library’s children’s and youth services coordinator, will show landscapes, florals and fun and funny animal art inspired by the Wisconsin countryside.

Newton moved to Fond du Lac about six years ago from Virginia Beach, Va., but has lived around the world. Since moving to Wisconsin, her art career blossomed from a hobby to a successful side enterprise; she shows her work locally and sells her wares at Annie’s Fountain City Cafe and Gallery & Frame Shop.

“It wasn’t until I moved to Wisconsin that I became inspired by the farmland around us,” Newton said. “Some of my favorite work comes from imagining quirky personalities for farm animals – something that never occurred to me on the East Coast.”
