The six-part Family Friday series is a feature of the Lenten Earth community program created by the Fond du Lac Center for Spirituality & Healing. Lenten Earth is intended to spend 40 days of caring for Mother Earth, the physical mother of God’s creation.

Meatless Cooking & Yummy Snacks, 4-5:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 28. Did you know meatless meals are good for you and for the environment? Replacing just one meal a week with a vegetarian option can offer many health benefits and helps take action against climate change. Join presenter Renee Wahlen, director of Marsh Haven Nature Center, to make healthy, easy recipes. Snacks and resources provided. Free. Children 10 and under must be accompanied by an adult. Decorate a Canvas Bag, 4-5:30 p.m. Friday, March 6. One of the easiest ways to help the environment is by reducing the use of plastic bags. Decorate a make-and-take reusable canvas bag and take the first step toward a healthier planet. Supplies provided. Free. Children 10 and under must be accompanied by an adult. Build a Nest Box or Bird Box, 4-5:30 p.m. Friday, March 13. Cavity-nesting birds are declining; they’re losing habitat and places to raise their young. Join us to build a birdhouse or nest box; one per family. Supplies provided. Free. Children 10 and under must be accompanied by an adult. Make a Simple Compost Bin, 4-5:30 p.m. Friday, March 20. Vermiculture, or worm composting, is a great way to help reduce food scraps from going into the landfill. Make a small worm composter to take home and start feeding the worms your garbage. Supplies provided. Free. Children 10 and under must be accompanied by an adult.  Make Seed Balls for Monarchs, 4-5:30 p.m. Friday, March 27. The monarch butterfly needs your help! Join us for a family-friendly program on butterflies and make-and-take seed balls to help the monarch population in our area. Supplies provided. Free. Pollinator-friendly Plants, 4-5:30 p.m. Friday, April 3. Join us as we plant pollinator-friendly vegetables and native flowers in containers. Each family will take home a container of planted vegetables or flowers to care for throughout the growing season. Supplies provided. Free. Children 10 and under must be accompanied by an adult.
